Philanthropy
ZBT's primary goal is to help better the community in as many ways as it can. To help do this brothers of Zeta Beta Tau are required to do no less than 12 philanthropic hours throughout the course of the year. Many of these hours come from events planned and organized by ZBT, however a few brothers go above and beyond and get involved in philanthropies throughout Rhode Island.
ZBT Giving Back
Relay For Life
ZBT is an organization built upon the foundations of philanthropy and giving back to the community around it. Every year brothers participate in events that benefit the community as a whole and strive to promote our name throughout Rhode Island. ZBT is heavily involved in Relay For Life, a popular organization that was created to help to deal with cancer. Every year brothers raise money and walk to show their support for this wonderful group.
Climb of your Life
Climb of your life is a non-profit group who hold events in metropolitan cities in which the runners will climb stairs to make the community aware of lung cancer. This event first came to Providence in 2009, and has continued strongly ever since, partially due to the help of Zeta Beta Tau. Both years ZBT has gone to Providence early in the morning and volunteered their Saturday mornings to philanthropy. This year alone, the orginization raised over $100,000 dollars! Involvement from the brotherhood for this event was very high and will only contnue in future years.
ZBT Cleaning Up
ZBT is an integral part of URI's campus and strives to make the University look and feel better to those who visit it. As a result over the past semester, ZBT has been participating in cleaning up campus to make the world a better place. Brothers will get up early on the weekend and clean up tour guide paths and many of the areas around Fraternity circle. This service is greatly appreciated by the University of Rhode Island, and its students gain benefit from it too. ZBT also has been involved with cleaning up Old Mountain Park in Wakefield, which had alot of litter before ZBT stepped in and adopted the park as its own. Every few weeks, the brothers will head over to Wakefield and help pick up the trash littering the park. Many citizens appreciate this gesture and have noticed the support the Fraternity has lent to it in the past years.
ITA Program
ZBT started helping with the ITA program in the Fall of 2009, a program designated to help teens with slight learning disabilities adjust to college life and deal with becoming a young adult. Brothers will hang out with them once a week, teaching them social skills and playing games with them to help them with the difficulties of adulthood. ZBT also did a fundraiser with the ITA program, by having the brothers ask the community of URI to donate to the worthy cause, resulting in a considerable amount of money raised and documentation within the school's newsletter. To add a fun twist to this fundraiser the end result was prominent members of URI's faculty dressing up as Sesame Street characters.
